May. 25th, 2017 06:12 pmPLAYER↴ Name: Raina Contact: plurk: marshmallowvodka discord: sugarburger#5564 Other Characters: None. CHARACTER↴ Character Name: Taako Age: Elf adulthood-- we don't have an exact number, but he's likely at least 100. Species: Sun elf (aka a "high elf") Canon: The Adventure Zone Canon Point: Pre-Wonderland; he got separated from the group in the Felicity Wild and wound up at the carnival instead. Character Info: His fanwiki page. Personality: It has been stated by Justin McElroy, Taako's creator and the player who portrays him in the podcast itself, that "Taako is not a good person." This is the best simple summary of most of his personality, really, at least outwardly; Taako is selfish, deceptive and dishonest even when he doesn't strictly need to be, sarcastic, and sometimes outright cruel, including to those that he considers his allies. Earning his trust is something of a chore, and is something that very few people have managed, and fewer yet have managed to keep up. He has a tendency to protect himself before anyone else, and has demonstrated a considerable lack of empathy for anyone outside of himself, and very few others. However, it's also been shown that he is capable of trusting and even caring for others; Angus McDonald, for example, manages to earn his trust, and Taako actually opens up to him before anyone else, telling him about what happened on his show and teaching him to use magic. Also, another unique situation is his twin sister, Lup; the two of them were extremely close, and he clearly trusted and loved her. He demonstrated more faith in her opinions and abilities than anyone else, and openly and sincerely complimented her; she's also the single person who's been shown to be able to influence Taako's actions at all. Lup's death and subsequent erasure from his memories left him detached and, on occasion, terribly violent, as her apparently calming influence on him was lost. The other important aspect of his personality is the contrast between his usual personality and presentation, and just how talented and clever he can be. He generally presents himself as being dim and unobservant, once describing himself as "a simple idiot wizard"; but his behavior in battle and when things are dire for his team tell a very different story. He can be cunning and clever, as well as fairly charming when he needs to worm his way out of something, and his skill in spellcasting has been repeatedly demonstrated to be remarkable. Abilities: As a D&D Transmutation-school wizard, Taako has the following abilities: Cantrips: Mage Hand Minor Illustion Prestidigitation Ray of Frost Spells: Shield Sleep Darkvision Charm Person Thunderwave Levitate Detect Magic Magic Missile Melf's Acid Arrow Blink Rope Trick Scorching Ray Disguise Self Clairvoyance Crown of Madness Enlarge/Reduce Phantom Steed Fireball Shatter Phantasmal Killer Evard's Black Tentacles Stoneskin Knock Cone of Cold Wall of Force Wall of Stone Otiluke's Resiliant Sphere Planar Binding Ice Storm Leomund's Secret Chest Arcane Eye Cloudkill Mislead Bigby's Hand Disintegrate Banishment Polymorph Fire Shield Fabricate Dominate Person Animate Objects Greater Invisibility Flesh to Stone Tasha's Hideous Laughter True Seeing Hunger of Hadar Magic Jar Drawmij's Instant Summons Detect Thoughts Obviously, a lot of the above spells will be heavily capped, if not outright disabled; Detect Thoughts and Dominate Person will only be used with the explicit permission of the other character's mun. His spell usage will be restricted, and destructive spells will be dialed back in the scale of damage that they can do. CARNIVAL↴ Soul Colour: Purple Ideal Jobs: Head chef, or anything in the kitchen Relevant Experience: He's a talented chef, and has been cooking for years and years; he used to host a traveling cooking show that was fairly popular. Reason for Joining: He got caught cheating at a carnival game using magic, and didn't have the money to pay for playing in the first place. SAMPLES↴ Sample 1 Sample 2: To say that it was Taako's first time cheating at the carnival would be both a lie and terribly naive. To say that it was his first time getting caught at cheating would, likewise, be entirely false and frankly unrealistic; in his adulthood alone, he'd caused enough trouble to become rather disliked amonst carnies. However, it was the first time that Taako had ever found himself entirely unable to somehow charm or deceive his way out of actually paying his dues, and, for that alone, this instance was, by far, the most irritating for him personally. And, as anyone who knew him would know, Taako's comfort was the highest priority, always. And, to make it all worse, the carnival wasn't even really all that interesting outside of the chance to trick some carnies out of their prizes. Having traveled with a fair few carnivals and circuses in his life, he was already familiar with the typical attractions, the way they were brainstormed and rehearsed, and none of those displays really excited him all that much; anyone claiming to do magic may as well have been making a show out of something as mundane as mending clothes. Taako just didn't care. Not even on his way to meet with the Ringleader did he break his air of mildly irate boredom. When he did actually meet with her, he was at least polite enough-- or frightened enough of what she might do otherwise-- to leave a touch of his irritation at the door, putting up a winsome front in the hopes of winning favor with her. It didn't seem to benefit him at all, but it certainly didn't hurt him, either; at least, not as far as he could tell. Getting a read on her proved fairly difficult, much to his chagrin. Then, quite all of a sudden, the conversation was over, and found himself deposited on the carnival grounds, having signed himself onto an actual contract for an actual year (and a day.) He gazed over the carnival grounds, from the big top, the other performers wandering their way across the grounds, to the place he would apparently be sleeping for the next year. "... son of a bitch," he moaned out loud to no one in particular, rolling his eyes. |
