He's on anesthetic, he's on saline... Byakuran hooks up an oxygen tank from the same closet for good measure before injecting a local anesthetic right under Taako's collarbone. Then and only then does he pull his mask from his throat to his mouth and lift the cloth from the cart's tray. It holds, as expected, surgical tools, clean and fresh from the autoclave. He'd use nothing less. He also starts a recorder.

His hands are practiced and steady as he begins the first incision. The cut goes straight down along Taako's sternum, through muscle and fat, along bone. He uses retractors to open the flesh, and marvels at the sight. "Subject is unfortunately awake for the procedure, as an adverse reaction to being put under is possible. Subject has more solid ribs than a human of a similar size and build, and a slower heartbeat than anesthetic of current level would normally cause."
